Q+A with Aroha Harawira
Posted on 19 August 2016
Each month we share a pot of tea and conversation with a Haven advocate. This month we caught up with the beautiful and talented, Aroha Harawira.
Name, occupation and hometown?
Aroha Harawira. I’m host of the George FM Grind, weekdays 10-3 and also a DJ. I was born and raised in Masterton.
What does a normal day look like for you?
Then I have a nourishing protein-rich breakfast, shower and get ready to start my radio show at George FM. After my show I’ll do an hour or two of prep for the next day, have meetings, and at least once a week I do something nice for myself, like getting a facial at Haven!
What is your at-home skincare routine for both morning and night?
I’m in love with the Ultraceuticals skin care range as it really works and is cruelty free which is an absolute must for me.
In the morning I cleanse my face with the Ultra Brightening Foaming Cleanser. I use the C23 Firming Concentrate Serum before moisturising with the Ultra Hydrating Lotion and Ultra Moisturiser Eye Cream. I always wear sun protection on my face (even in winter) and like the Hydrating SPF30 Ultra UV Protective Daily. It’s non-greasy and absorbs quickly.
I used to be shocking at leaving my makeup on before bed some nights after DJing, but now I know better. These days I take any makeup off with a micellar cleansing water (again, Ultraceuticals do a great one that is alcohol free), then cleanse my skin with my cleanser and the same eye cream. I use a richer moisturiser which addresses the small bits of skin pigmentation that I have. The Ultra Brightening Moisturising Cream is great for this.
Whats your favourite past time?
I love eating. It’s a basic love, but nothing makes me happier than eating an incredible meal.
On a Saturday evening I am…
Often I’m DJing and usually this means I won’t start work until midnight. I usually try to catch up with friends over food and wines before heading to the venue where I’m playing.
If I’m not DJing, I’ll either be in my pyjamas eating at home, or at a drum & bass gig, dancing into the wee hours.
What is your favourite treatment at Haven?
I just love the Osmosis facials, they feel incredible and each time I come in, my therapist takes a good look at my skin before deciding what the best treatment is for me that day. I do this combined with a monthly LED phototherapy treatment under the Healite II machine (whilst receiving a neck, shoulder, arm and hand massage). I always leave Haven with glowing, plump skin and I feel so relaxed.
What are your main concerns for your skin, and how do you work to keep these concerns at bay?
My skin tends to get quite dry when the seasons change, especially around my t-zone, and I also suffer from sun pigmentation.
I’ve noticed dramatic improvements with my pigmentation since doing the LED phototherapy treatments and the Ultraceuticals range has addressed inconsistencies in my skin texture.
What is one skin care product you couldn’t live without, and why?
Water. It’s the most important thing we can give our skin and it’s often the one thing we forget to drink enough of.
