EXPERT SERIES

This week we talk to industry expert, Carla Konik, Sales and PR Manager at Osmosis Skincare.  Having worked in the industry for nearly 20 years, it's fair to say that Carla knows a thing or two about achieving your best-ever skin so we wanted to share her inside scoop.

Carla Osmosis Skincare

As someone who has their finger on the pulse, what do you see as the next big trend in skincare?

It’s already happening! Treating skin conditions at their source internally.

What do you love most about your job?

The people, hands down! I love working alongside women who want to make a difference in this world and industry by empowering them to be the best versions of themselves inside and out. I feel lucky to be able to make a difference in people’s lives and business. From creating strong business strategies to helping treat serious skin conditions and education... no day is the same!

You have been in the industry a long time so you must have tried almost every product out there, what is the one stand-out product that has really made a difference to your skin?

Ohhh I really have! The biggest learning I’ve had these past few years is that wounding the skin isn’t the answer. The one product that has had made a difference to my skin is Catalyst AC11 . From spending my childhood aboard boats & loving the sun, AC11 has helped my skin with all the DNA damage acquired over the years and prevents anymore damage from occurring! I love being able to take this serum right up over my whole face and neck....even my eyes.

What is the most common mistake you see people make with their skincare?

That to create change we need to wound the skin to get it to respond and that an expensive moisturizer is the answer to ageing.

You talk abut RevitaPen not "wounding" the skin, what do you mean by that?

When we talk about wounding, we mean to cause trauma or inflammation to the skin often through laser, needling, harsh peels and acids just to name a few.

We know inflammation encourages new collagen but that collagen is only ever temporary while the skin is in repair mode and the inflammation is present.

Once the wound is healed that collagen dies off meaning to create new collagen you must wound your skin with an invasive treatment over and over again to make fresh collagen.

We can encourage permanent dermal collagen production without having to wound or cause trauma.

In some cases such as ice pick scarring, invasive treatments can be beneficial but only then.

Juggling work and a young family must put a lot of pressure on your time. What’s your go-to skin pick-me-up for when you’re out of time?

Another toughie...either I apply Catalyst AC11 overnight as a mask or if I’m heading out on a girls night I’ll apply Hydra-lift mask throughout the day to help instantly lift and hydrate my skin but ssshhh don’t give away all my secrets!

What is your favourite skin treatment and why?

I can’t go past an Osmosis facial infusion with the Revitapen. I love that for 30 days after the facial I am still creating collagen deep in the dermal layers of my skin and that the benefits are on-going. Not only does my skin receive all the nutrients without wounding my skin, it is much more accepting of all the ingredients the facial infusion contains because of the Revitapen...meaning I can get so much more goodness in one single treatment. Unlike other treatments I’ve tried over the years that use a device or machine, I still leave feeling like I’ve had a hands-on treatment that involves a lot of massage and relaxation.

Why are you such a big fan of RevitaPen?  What are the benefits and how will it help my skin look better?

I love that I can have it with any Osmosis facial (not just the infusion), and even though the Osmosis range contains a patented delivery system allowing 33% more penetration of active  ingredients,  it makes my skin even more receptive of the active ingredients. Basically, it increases the delivery of nutrients into my skin.

Your skin instantly looks healthier, more refreshed and if we are working on a specific skin condition it allows a more dramatic result ending in your Osmosis Skin therapists being able to create permanent change to your skin. No temporary results!

Does RevitaPen hurt? What does it feel like?

No! We have been taught over the years that “beauty is pain” but in this instance no pain is inflicted. A slight vibration sensation is experienced over your skin and is gentle enough that you can even have it over your eyelids.

What advice would you give someone wanting to start on a skincare plan but are worried about their budget.  Where should they prioritise their spend?

A good cleanser and moisturizer are an important factor in any regime but a serum will give you the biggest bang for your buck!

What is your best tip for keeping skin looking great during winter?

Hydration is key internally but if I find my skin drying out due to the cooler climate, I love applying Immerse Restorative Facial Oil the end of my evening routine. Keeping up with your serums all year round is the key to beautiful looking skin regardless of the season.

What does true beauty mean to you?

Accepting that we all have parts of ourselves that we dislike but that’s what makes us all beautiful and if you can rest your head on your pillow each night knowing that you have been kind to others your true beauty will shine.

Favourite NZ holiday destination?

Either staying at a luxurious Blackbarn Retreat on Tukituki River in Hawke's Bay or family time at the Bach in Tairua on the Coromandel Peninsula.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

That life’s too short to care about how you look in your togs – nobody is actually watching. Just dive into the bubbly waves.
